ALBUM REVIEW ~ THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA ~ 'COLOR DECAY'

The Devil Wears Prada are coming in hot with dropping the band’s eighth studio album, Color Decay (Solid State Records). It’s been a little over a year since they dropped their highly anticipated ep ZII which received nothing short of positive feedback revisiting the zombie theme they dropped back in 2010. This album may not be all about zombies but it still delivers in the good old Prada fashion. Those head crunching breakdowns with the soothing cleans still pull you in and leave you wanting more. The Devil Wears Prada continues to grow and mature, and you can see that with their music. Color Decay is the most mature album they have released.

The album starts off with a banger. “Exhibition” being that track. Setting the tone for what is expected to be another great album. Experimenting with some different sounds they still opened up with a heavy hitting banger. Track 3 is “Watchtower” and the band dropped this song as a single back on February 3, 2022. Like others, I thought it was probably a B-side from the previous release ZII because it just fit the theme. It sounded like it belonged there but if you are a fan of the zombie eps, this song is for you and a great addition to the album.

If there’s one thing I love the most it’s being able to feel an attachment to the song. Sitting there hearing the words and feeling the emotions in the instruments alone. Track 7, “Trapped,” is exactly that for me. I kept chills through this whole song from Mike’s harsh and emotional verses only to be consumed by Jeremys gentle chorus. There are a couple songs on this album like this that some fans may find off putting but again, this is the most mature album and you can tell. They hit every aspect you’d expect from them as a new or an old fan. You might even hear something you never expected from Prada, like track 11, “Hallucinate.” It definitely uses some of that “new age” sound but typical Prada, they make it theirs and own it!

This album had it all. New fans and old fans will enjoy it. I personally have had it on repeat and I want more. The Devil Wears Prada does nothing but deliver and I’m here for it. Color Decay, Their most mature drop to date will have you dancing in your car, mosh pitting in your living room and quite possibly shedding a tear while gaming. This album is nothing short of beautiful.
