III is The Winery Dog’s third album set to release Feb 3, 2023 on Three Dog Music (via Burnside Distribution/The Orchard). The album self-produced by the band and mixed by Jay Ruston is the follow up to their 2015 album Hot Streak. The Winery Dogs is a three piece-rock consisting of Richie Kotzen (Mr. Big, Poison) on guitars/vocals, Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big, Steve Vai, David Lee Roth) on bass/vocals and Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) on drums/vocals.
This album is a roaring return for the band with great, catchy jams. One of my favorite tracks is “Rise” with the standout guitar playing of Kotzen and the message of not letting people knock you down. “Stars” chorus really sticks in your head with Kotzen’s gritty vocals, Sheehan’s bass playing and Portnoy’s drumming. “The Vengeance” is a high energy rock anthem that will have everyone singing along. “Lorelei” has a bluesy rock vibe showcasing Kotzen’s amazing vocal range and is the standout track on the album.
The Winery Dogs incredible musicianship on this album makes for a stellar comeback. III is the perfect rock album to kick off the new year.
