Iconic metal band Sevendust is back with their 14th studio album Truth Killer released on July 28, 2023, via Napalm Records. A follow-up to 2020’s Blood & Stone the album is produced by Michael “Elvis” Baskette. Formed in 1994, Sevendust’s long-standing career has solidified the band’s much-revered status in the metal/rock scene. The exceptional musicianship between Lajon Witherspoon (vocals), Clint Lowery (guitar, vocals), John Connolly (guitars), Vinnie Hornsby (bass), and Morgan Rose (drums, vocals) shines on Truth Killer.
The opening track “I Might Let the Devil Win”, has an atmospheric vibe that builds as Witherspoon sings about the battle between good and evil. The lyrics of the song demonstrate the band’s incredible songwriting skills.
The Hard-hitting “Everything” is an inspiring anthem. The high-energy song about believing in yourself will have everyone singing along with the chorus.
A standout on the album “Leave Hell Behind” begins with eerie beats as Witherspoon soulfully sings, “I’ll die in peace and leave you with my heart and soul forever.” The song builds into a soaring chorus with heavy guitars and booming drums and bass.
Another highlight of the album is “Messenger.” Witherspoon and Lowery’s incredible vocals combine perfectly in this song.
The album concludes with the aggressive, in-your-face “Fence”. Fast guitar riffs, thunderous drums, and bass along with Witherspoon’s passionate, powerful vocal range make this a captivating end to the album.
Truth Killer is a masterfully executed album. The album’s production is impeccable and Sevendust’s musical chemistry is magical. From beginning to end, the album takes the listener on a journey that you never want to end.
