Brent Cobb brought a confident, roots-driven performance to a full house at the Lincoln Theatre on Friday night (5/9), offering a thoughtful mix of country, Americana, and Southern rock. Backed by his band, The Fixin’s, Cobb presented a set that reached across two decades of songwriting, while also giving fans a preview of what’s next.
The evening’s highlight came with the debut of “Ain’t Rocked in a While,” listen here on spotify, the lead single and title track from his upcoming album, due July 11, 2025. Introduced with a wry remark,“I’ve rocked, just ain’t rocked in a while,” the song marked a noticeable stylistic shift. With heavier guitar riffs and punchy drums, it leans more into rock territory than some of Cobb’s previous work, but still retains the lyrical clarity and Southern feel that defines his sound.
The setlist was well-balanced, touching on fan favorites and deeper cuts, while the band provided a steady, well-rehearsed and dialed in foundation throughout the evening. Despite a few minor technical issues, the group never lost its footing, maintaining a consistent rhythm and tone across the night.
Cobb’s relaxed stage presence made for an intimate, conversational experience. He engaged the audience with ease, allowing the songs to take center stage while adding personal touches between numbers. His ability to blend genres without losing a sense of authenticity remains one of his greatest strengths.
In all, the performance was a reminder of Cobb’s quiet staying power and musical versatility. While “Ain’t Rocked in a While” may suggest a louder phase ahead, Thursday night’s show confirmed that Brent Cobb’s core—honest songwriting and grounded delivery—is firmly intact.
Opening the show was Madison Hughes, an intimate solo performance with an acoustic guitar and a story telling set with some fun banter with the audience. Hughes performed some selections from her new debut album All That I Am just released in April. Listen here on spotify!
