Artist Spotlight is a segment that we started to introduce our readers to some deserving up and coming artists/bands. They have made an impact on us for all of the right reasons. We think they kick ass, and we hope you do too! Let’s shine the spotlight on Mexico’s metalheadsJet Jaguars.

No doubt about it, a distinctive fighting spirit is an integral part of Jet Jaguar Jimmy Lozano, endless nights, meternal light, aguar’s DNA: The four-piece from Mexico are one of the most promising metal newcomers of 2025 and have survived a dramatic line-up change just as effortlessly as the difficult lockdown years and –  you could say: as a dramatic climax – a serious traffic accident in autumn 2024 during their tour with Anvil. At the end of the day, all of this has helped the band to grow tougher and more mature. Now the release of their second album ‘Severance’ is about to prove how important passion and perseverance are for an ambitious metal act. “Over the past five years, we’ve had to overcome a number of setbacks, but we’ve continued to grow as a band, as instrumentalists and as composers,” says drummer and founding member Jimmy Lozano. “Since our 2020 debut ‘Endless Nights’, we’ve risen to all those challenges and feel so much stronger as a result. This also includes some compositional innovations, but our style still consists of fast-paced songs with shredder guitars, technical masterpieces and a commitment to traditional metal.” ‘Severance’ will be available on Steamhammer from 24 October 2025 on CD and LP and for digital download. Three singles including video clips will be released in ahead of the album’s arrival: ‘Eternal Light’ (out on 25 July 2025), ‘Fool’s Paradise’ (out on 5 September 2025) and ‘Mach 10’ (out on 10 October 2025).

We sat down for a short, but fun Q & A with Jet Jaguar drummer and founding member Jimmy Lozano.

Every superhero or villain has an origin and a band is no different minus the radioactive spiders and secret government experiments. What is the origin of JET JAGUAR?

Jimmy Lozano/ Jet Jaguar: Jet Jaguar was born out of the desire to play traditional Heavy Metal like NWOTHM, with the idea of sharing the genre with people our age. When the band started, we were between 16 and 17 years old. Our regular school friends had no idea who Judas Priest or King Diamond were. We liked the idea of taking the genre everywhere to share our music.

Band names can have a meaning or it can be a name pulled out of a hat. What’s the story behind JET JAGUAR?

The name came from playing a fighting game similar to Mortal Kombat, but it was about Godzilla. That’s where we discovered the character Jet Jaguar, who is basically a robot that helps Godzilla defeat his enemies.

What are you currently working on?

Right now, we are focused on everything that comes with the release of the next album Severance.

What’s your favorite cartoon?

My favorite cartoon, which to this day still is Dragon Ball Z. It’s an anime that transcended generations and had a huge impact all over the world.
