311 delivered a performance to be remembered at the Skyla Amphitheater on Sunday in Charlotte for their ‘Unity Tour,’ with support from Neon Trees and AWOLNATION. 311’s blend of rock, reggae, and hip-hop, which took the alt-rock scene by storm in the early 1990s and loyal fans have continued to follow the band – and the band continues to deliver. Having played more than 2,000 concerts across the world, the band knows how to put on a show, with intricate LED screens and other visuals that turn the concert into an experience.
“311 recently released “You’re Gonna Get It“, their first new single since their album Voyager in 2019. An introspective track that deals with the realization that all actions have consequences, even if they aren’t immediate, “You’re Gonna Get It” is sure to please both new fans and diehards alike. The high-energy track, which made its live debut earlier this year at the band’s infamous 311 Day event in Las Vegas, is paired with a new music video that finds the band in the center of an underground fighting ring, with vocalist Nick Hexum in the middle of a boxing match,” according to the band.
From the opening notes of “Beautiful Disaster” the band was as good as I remember from the last time I saw them play – probably 20 years ago. By the time 311 took the stage, around 9 p.m., fans had been chanting ‘311, 3-3-11’ for about 15 minutes and when the band took their places the excitement and cheers were deafening.
I’m Music Magazine’s Photographer/Writer Michael Praats was there to catch all the action. A full setlist can be found after the photo gallery.
