I hadn’t heard of the band Blitzkrieg before listening to their latest album, also called Blitzkrieg, coming out September 6, 2024 via Mighty Music. The first track, “You Won’t Take Me Alive” has a catchy guitar riff and great vocals, giving vibes of Dragonforce meets Metallica as my first impression. Once I read the band’s history, it made sense! Blitzkrieg is a British metal band formed in the 1980s credited with inspiring many classic metal bands, including Metallica. Their sound is classic power, energy, and solid heavy metal jams. I enjoyed every song on this album, which doesn’t happen often. Blitzkrieg is a great soundtrack for driving, or being active around the house because of the energy it brings. I liked how well the powerful vocals blended with the hammering guitars, the harmonies, and the overall vibe of the album.
To call out a few favorite tracks from Blitzkrieg, “Dragon’s Eye” has the coolest fantasy element to the lyrics, reminding me what I love about classic songs from other bands, like Iron Maiden’ “Fear of the Dark” and Black Sabbath’s “The Devil Cried.” It tells a story through the words, echoing the journey with the melody, growing more powerful as the song reaches its crescendo. I also really liked “Vertigo” for the emotions it evoked, that sort of heavy metal dedication and bad-assery that only metalheads truly understand. The feeling like you can do anything if the right song is playing as your soundtrack.
Overall, listening to Blitzkrieg made me go back and listen to the band’s catalog, something I thoroughly enjoyed. This album is a great compliment to Blitzkrieg’s history, and a treasure for old and new fans alike. I don’t often give a perfect review, but Blitzkrieg is worth a few listens! According to their press release, “Blitzkrieg” will be released on CD, LP (black, green and red vinyl versions available, each limited to 200 copies) and digital on September 6th, 2024 via Mighty Music.” Be sure to find yourself a copy!
