Crazy Lixx is a crazy good hard rock band. But I would expect no less from a group with two X’s in its name! Look for Two Shots of Glory out on Frontiers Music on February 16.
The album is a commemoration of Crazy Lixx’s 20+ year career (who knew?). It features reimagined versions of some of their best songs and also contains a few new surprises.
Described as “the new wave of Swedish sleaze,” these boys are definitely influenced by 80’s glam rock royalty, Skid Row, Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe, RATT, Poison and Bon Jovi.
Featuring Danny Rexon (Vocals), Joél Cirera (Drums), Jens Anderson (Bass), Chrisse Olsson (Guitar) and Jens Lundgren (Guitar), if you like the vintage Sunset Strip sound, you’ll probably dig Crazy Lixx.
Although full of catchy hooks and choruses throughout, “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot” is one that stands out among the rest. This steamroller of a track could easily have been cranked out at a high school kegger in 1987. I can smell the stale beer and Aqua Net now!
“In the Night” is another ripper. The brilliant guitar fills stop short of stepping on the colorful lyrics. When’s the last time you heard police sirens in a song? I’m guessing the glorious late 80s – that’s when!
It’s no secret that I’m not a big fan of the almighty power ballad, but I have to admit that “Only the Dead Know” is a damn good song. Primarily because it showcases Rexon’s impressive vocal range and the dynamic guitar duo of Olsson and Lundgren.
Two Shots of Glory finishes strong with “Church of Rock” and “Riot Avenue.” Both are just fun, party-time, sing-along songs. They took me back to a less complicated time when having fun was the only goal.
It’s doubtful that Crazy Lixx will ever be mentioned in the same breath as AC/DC, Van Halen or Guns N Roses, but I recently read an article that said, “If a piece of music moves you, it’s good music.”
This album literally got my knee bouncing and my head bobbing. By my definition, that makes it good music!
