UK alternative rock quartet, False Hearts are about to release their new EP, Remedy on April 3, 2020. From the moment I clicked the play button, I was instantly drawn into their infectious brand of music.
The band has been compared to such heavy hitters like Halestorm, Foo Fighters, and Shinedown. While those comparisons are pretty spot on, I was also able to pick up on influences of Heart’s Ann Wilson in the voice of vocalist/guitarist, Emma Hodgson. There is also a very bluesy and gritty southern feel to the music, thanks to lead guitarist, Ali Westwood.
Opening up the EP is the groove heavy title track, “Remedy.” Giant chugging riffs and slamming rhythm section open up this song with a bang and you can’t help but stomp your foot and raise your fist! Killer vocals infused with raw power and soul. Excellent first taste that leaves you wanting more.
Following that up is the more straight-ahead rocker, “Misery Loves Company.” The track also happens to be the band’s first official single and video from the EP.
Slinky and sleazy vibes in the verses and explosive energy when the chorus drops. Kudos to the rhythm section of drummer, Adi Bowes and bassist, Phil Benton for laying down such an incredibly solid bottom end.
The dark and moody ballad, “Breathe Again” is hands down my favorite track on the album. I’m a sucker when it comes to ballads, power ballads, whatever you want to call them. Hearing and most importantly feeling such raw emotion and being able to connect with an artist is such an amazing and priceless thing. Everyone in the band brings their best to the track, and this would be personal choice for the band’s second single.
Closing out the EP is the more up-tempo and aggressive, “Enough is Enough.” The duo of Emma (Hodgson) and Ali (Westwood) are the centerpiece of this song. Their dual guitar attack intertwined with those unapologetic vocals make this track shine and send this album off into the proverbial sunset.
Remedy is the perfect title for this collection of new music. False Hearts have provided the rock world with a remedy to those seeking music that connects and soothes the soul. It will also get you up of your feet and make you lose yourself to the undeniable power of great rock and roll music.
