Australian-Born Guitar afficionado Orianthi is back with a brand-new album, entitled Rock Candy, released on October 14th via Frontiers Music SRL.
Rock Candy is the follow-up to 2020’s multi-Platinum selling O. Orianthi is joined on the album by multi-instrumentalist and producer Jacob Bunton. Bunton contributes Keyboard, Bass, Piano, Violin and Guitar on the album.
The album is half an hour of searing blues guitar leads and infectious pop choruses, as sampled throughout this release. The first of two blues instrumental ‘Illuminate-Part 1’ open the LP before bursting with energy on lead single ‘Light It Up’. Orianthi’s rich and mellifluous vocals seem adept with stellar guitar play that evokes the image of contemporary blues. The catchy and effective ‘Fire Together’ follows up with one of many solos on display. The album mixes deft guitar work with some great solos that resonate with the listener.
‘Rock Candy’ is not all about the blues, though. Bunton has made it his mission to make this as accessible as possible for a commercial audience. He has focused heavily on the vocals of Orianthi to appeal to a new fanbase. The power ballad of ‘Where Did your Heart Go?’ is a powerful and emotive single that will lean more to fans of such songs. ‘Red Light’ and ‘Burning’ are two other commercial tracks to keep an ear out for.
That is not to say the whole album is like this. The second part levies more to the heavier side of Orianthi, such as ‘Void’ and the short ‘Witches and The Devil’, a taste of some edgy Americana.
And finally, the follow up to the intro ‘Illuminate Part 2’ features with some dazzling blues and violin.
Overall, Rock Candy has teamed up with an experienced producer and musician to get the best out of her sound to take her to a new level in her budding career.
