Revolution Saints, the supergroup commanded by Journey drummer/vocalist Deen Castronovo, released Against The Winds February 9, 2024 via Frontiers Music Srl.

The follow-up to 2023’s Eagle Flight finds Castronovo joined again by bassist Jeff Pilson (ForeignerDokkenThe End Machine), guitarist Joel Hoekstra (Whitesnake,Night RangerJoel Hoekstra’s 13), and keyboardist Alessandro Del Vecchio who skillfully handles the production work, and writes all the music.

Against The Winds includes 11 tracks with uplifting and soaring vocals, guitar solos sure to knock your socks off, and a strong, solid rhythm section that pulls the band together. There is an equal measure of riffage and beauty. In other words, it’s everything a listener would expect from an epic, melodic band of this caliber. It’s a rather amazing album.

The lead off title track, “Against The Winds” and second offering “Changing My Mind” were previously released singles. They show the contrast of rocker and ballad. “Will I See You Again”, “Fall On My Knees”, and “No Turning Back” are more examples of sheer delight—-like seeing a shooting star for the first time. If we’re being honest, any of the songs could be released and do the album justice.

Revolution Saints was the brainchild of Serafino Perugino, the president and head of A&R at Frontiers, to showcase the magnificent vocal talents of Castronovo. I’m glad he noticed Deen’s potential as a front person and presented it to music lovers around the globe. Castronovo has retained a spot in the top five of drummers turned lead singers and it’s unlikely to ever change.

Another endearing factor is the return of their “mascot”. Does the eagle have a name? Inquiring minds want to know (that would be me), but I imagine it signifies the band’s vitality, power, and vision.

Let’s hope Revolution Saints continue to release gems like Against The Winds for years to come because it’s something special.
