Stud Count’s self-titled debut album (July 22nd), released on Smartpunk Records, is a fast and furious listen. The high-energy alternative punk twelve-song album produced by Zach Miller (Gel, Slick Shit, Fluoride, Academy Order) clocks in at 20 minutes and 54 seconds.
“The Way I Walk” kicks off the album in true punk fashion and gives off major Buzzcocks vibes which the band lists as one of their musical influences.
“Pleasure Center” is one of the standout tracks. Singer Norelle Green’s strong punk chants prove she is a force to be reckoned with.
The lead single, “Through My Window,” is a catchy, upbeat song about young love. The video for the song is a fun way to get introduced to the band.
Another favorite on the album is “Big Fish.” Lightning-fast punk guitars, thundering drums, along with Norelle’s hell-raising vocals give the song instant appeal.
“Avenue,” the last song on the album, is the stand-out track. The desperation and anger Norelle belts, “Miles we are tired, running on the wire, jumping at the chance,” hit hard. Stud Count’s album is a rowdy, fun listen, taking us on a throwback journey reminiscent of bands like L7, Bikini Girl, Garbage and Buzzcocks.
