Taylor Acorn delivers a knockout with her latest LP, Survival in Motion (Deluxe)—a high-energy, emotionally resonant collection that’s as fun as it is finely crafted. Expanding on its original 2024 release, we get some additional tracks as well. With appearances from LOLO, Charlotte Sands, and Mitchel Tenpenny on re-released original tracks such as “Greener”, “Final Nail” and “Nervous System”, the album once again blends that pop-punk, alt-rock, and radio-ready pop sensibilities, showcasing Acorn’s dynamic range as both a vocalist and songwriter.
From the jump, the title track, “Survival in Motion” sets the tone with a cinematic, slow-burning intro that builds into a driving, danceable groove. The production is tight, and the breakdown hits with serious impact, setting the stage for the rest of the album’s momentum.
“Applause” follows immediately and keeps the momentum intact—bright, energetic, and undeniably catchy. It’s a standout for its infectious chorus and irresistible head-bobbing quality that invites a full-volume sing-along.
Further in, “Be Like You” brings things back just enough to bring in a dose of introspection, while maintaining that foot tapping catch. With a thoughtful hook and reflective lyrics, it offers a nice tonal shift while keeping the relatable connection high.
A rather poignant moment on the album comes with the added track, “Burning House,” a song that radiates both an emotional release as well as a moment of healing. There’s something universal in its delivery—anyone who’s heard it can relate its meaning to their own experience and feel something go. It’s a release in the truest sense, and yet another reminder of music’s universal ability to help us process and let go. Another example of why Survival in Motion (Deluxe), an already great album, is made even better – a winner from start to finish. Even if you already have Survival in Motion in your repertoire, “Burning House” all on its own makes the addition of Survival in Motion (Deluxe) worth it to add.
Survival in Motion is an album you can let play all the way through—no skips necessary. That’s something I rarely find these days, and it’s a testament to both the quality of the songwriting and the cohesion of the project.
The production throughout the record is top-tier, balancing polish and punch without sacrificing the raw edge that gives Acorn her distinctive sound. It’s no surprise she’s been announced for When We Were Young Fest as well as the Van’s Warped Tour—Survival in Motion (Deluxe) feels Taylor-made (you like what I did there?) for big stages and loud crowds.
So if you’re into emotionally charged, high-energy music that makes you move and feel, Survival in Motion is well worth your time. For me, it’s already earned a steady spot in my rotation.
