The BRKN’s  Come Outside is diverse, catchy, and brainy pop-infused rock n’ roll.

The new set of songs kick in with “Calm Down” which features groove-filled rhythm guitars and a howling synth sound. The energetic and upbeat energy is a perfect gambit for the following seven tracks. The band tows the party line between alternative rock and pop throughout.

The song “Therapy Session” mixes an electric piano sound with fuzzy guitar licks. The vocals are top-notch, and this is a wildly solid group of musicians. And then there is “Be Cool,” with its swaggering soundscape of self-confident harmony. “Lost Boy” is another banger that showcases the musicianship and sheer chops of the trio.

Let’s talk about the thunderous drumming on track number 5, “Lying All The Time” which spotlights the pure prowess of Cade’s vocal. “Fake Love” takes a page out of Prince’s playbook with its sexy, funky fuel.  While “Marilyn” leaves you wondering if it’s a rockin’ nod to Miss Monroe. The band ends the set with the intimate “Lovers” and Cade’s soaring vocals.

It’s an explosive set of rockin’, poppy, punky, and synthy songs. They all have their own personality, yet fit so nicely together. The Denver trio—Jacob Cade [vocals, guitar], Mike Bokenkamp [drums], and MJ Younkers [guitar]—wrap energetic pop in warm synths, straddling punk, alternative, indie rock, and electronic all at once.  As soon as tours kick back in The BRKN is at the top of my “must see” list and I suggest you add them to yours too.
