When you think of great rock and roll, what bands come to mind? AC/DC, Van Halen, Aerosmith? Well, you can Canada’s own The Wild! to that list. They recently dropped their latest album, very aptly titled, Still Believe in Rock & Roll (eONe Music)

The album opens up with the high-octane rocker, “Bad News.” No frills here, just a straight ahead bluesy and ballsy track to get your both your fists and heart pumping.

Following up with the same intensity, is the hot burning boogie number, “Crazy for You.” Love the gang vocals in the background during the chorus. Guitarist, Benny the Kid absolutely slays on the guitar all throughout the track.

Vocalist, Dylan Villain is the epitome of swagger, and he really shows that off on “Nothing Good Comes Easy.” He’s got this great raspy, whiskey-soaked voice that is reminiscent of the late Bon Scott from AC/DC. The chorus is larger than life, and you’ll be singing instantly after first listen.

The Wild marches into rockabilly/psychobilly territory with the ferocious “High Speed.” From the second the song starts, there is no letting up whatsoever!

“Some of us still believe in rock and roll” proclaims singer Dylan Villain on the album’s anthemic title track. This song should easily find its way to the radio airwaves and be blasted to 11.

“Playing with Fire” is definitely a song that stands above the rest. There are elements of punk and rockabilly of course, but it also has kind of a bluesy country feel to it as well.

“Young Rebels” speaks of passing the proverbial torch to the next generation of rockers. Little slower in tempo and has a cool Social Distortion vibe to it.

Closing out the album is the soulful, “Gasoline.” This track definitely gets my vote for best track on the album. Heartfelt and filled with genuine emotion. “Gasoline” feels more like a personal letter written to a loved one or maybe the whole world. Either way, it is an outstanding track and perfect way to bring the album to an end.

Simply put, The Wild! have managed to create an album of music that truly makes you believe in the power of rock and roll. It spoke to me on many different levels and when it all came to an end, I smiled as the my belief in rock and roll had been cemented.

Rating: 8/10 Stars.
