Award winning Annapolis, Maryland rockers Veer have been creating quite a buzz for themselves that reaches far beyond the Maryland state lines. Their 2018 debut album Apocalyptic, Baby was a great vehicle to showcase the band’s sound and style to music fans all around the world. That album immediately broke Amazon’s Top 100 Rock Album sales upon its release. It’s been just a little over a year since that release and fans are already clamoring for new material from the guys. It may be a bit too early for another full length album, so the band decided to release an EP to curb some of that appetite. The band released the four track EP Shut Up & Breathe in late October. Veer drummer Jon Malfi told us, “The title came about because it was our way of saying, give us time, we are working on new stuff for you.”
The four track EP includes the album version of “Breathe,” from their Apocalyptic, Baby release and three previously unreleased tracks. “Breathe (Lonely People Remix)” is an acoustic version of the band’s single. I love both versions of the song, but it’s interesting how this version really pulls your attention more towards the lyrical content. This stripped down version makes you notice Ronald Malfi’s stellar vocal delivery even more. The other two tracks, “On Top” and “Make You,” are live tracks from the band’s show in Baltimore, Maryland with Puddle of Mudd. Many fans have commented that this particular show was one of the band’s best and you can definitely feel the energy in these live tracks. You can also get a great feel for how tight this band is and seasoned well beyond their years together as a unit.
This is an incredibly talented band that doesn’t rely on smoke and mirrors to get by in the music industry. They’re real musicians who play their own instruments and write their own engaging songs. This is a band to keep your eyes and ears on! Hopefully this EP will help to satisfy some of the hunger for new music from the guys. Let it serve as an appetizer for fans as they await the main entrée.
