Woodstock Barbie released their third EP Witch of the Dice on March 1, 2023, on Corner Art Records. The Budapest band with Sandra on vocals, Arian Horvath on guitar and keys, Adam Gilinger on drums, and Aron Vilczek on bass, combines blues, soul, and rock to create an adventurous listening experience.
“Blues & Juice” is a mesmerizing start to the EP, with Sandra’s gritty, blues vocals. Arian’s dark, soulful, and hooky keys are a standout on this track.
Sandra’s vocals have a hypnotic quality which is highlighted in the psychedelic rock song “Witch of the Dice” as she sings, “I just want to be free”.
The vibey “Cats and Goats” with Yves Krismer, singer of Austrian psychedelic space rock band Mother’s Cake, takes the listener on a wild listening ride. Krismer’s soulful, hard-hitting vocals shine as he sings, “Seeking for the moment, Taking from more and more. The perfect time, A perfect rhyme, A perfect crime.”
The closing song “Rotten Unicorn” is a mysterious, shadowy end to the EP. Sandra describes the song as “the vibe of being at a Busojaras (an annual winter expelling celebration of Mohacs, Hungary) when someone stabs you with a burning pitchfork, in red lights in the time of sunset.”
Witch of the Dice takes the listener on a dark, bluesy, soulful, rockin’ psychedelic ride into another era. Woodstock Barbie does an incredible job of mixing musical genres and eras to come up with their own unique sound. Their musical journey will be an exciting one to watch.
