Daughtry are our on the road opening up for Disturbed on their Sickness 25th Anniversary Tour. This awesome tour also features Nothing More and it stopped in Raleigh, NC at the Lenovo Center on 4/14. After Nothing More rocked the stage, which included an appearance by Chris Daughtry for their song “Freefall,” it was time for Daughtry to take over. As with Nothing More, Daughtry’s set list favored their latest album Shock to the System (Part One).
Their set opened with “The Reckoning” from their latest album. It’s interesting watching Chris Daughtry perform live. Michael Jordan often referred to some of his greatest games as being “in the zone.” I’ve seen Daughtry numerous times throughout the years and it’s as if Chris locks in on what he’s doing and gets in the zone when delivering his songs. He’s focused on giving the best performance possible and that he does. He still has an amazing voice that actually seems stronger to me. His debut album came out in 2006, yes 20 years ago, and his voice sounds amazing!
Before his fourth song, he asked the audience if they felt like singing something with them. I was immediately thinking one of the huge hits off of his debut album, but I was fooled. He then went into his cover of Journey’s 80’s classic “Separate Ways.” He eventually did get to his debut album with two back to back selections with “It’s Not Over” and an acoustic version of “Home.” There was a new song that they played called “The Day I Die” which is a brand new song that they’ve been playing on the tour. The set eventually closed out with “Artificial.” A complete set list is right after the photo gallery. At the end of their show, the guys walked over to the edge of the barricade and handed something out to a few fans. A lot of people couldn’t see what had happened. Chris posted on social media the next day that they had taken some pix, signed them and gave them to the fans. How awesome is that?
A review of the show cannot be complete without mentioning two things. First off, they had a pretty awesome lightshow all throughout their set. I know some people may not give notice to or even care about aspects like that. They lighting really does add to what type of song it is and can set a mood for them to play to. The other thing that I want to mention is how freaking amazing the band sounds. I know Chris gets a lot of the attention, but these guys need their props. These guys are blazing hot and know when to floor it for more intensity and when to pull back. What an awesome sounding band and a show that you really do need to check out.
