Amon Amarth released The Great Heathen Army on August 5, 2022 via Metal Blade Records. They’re currently out on their long awaited North American headline tour where they’ve brought along Carcass, Obituary, and Cattle Decapitation. We were beyond stoked to catch the band when the tour rolled into The Fillmore in Charlotte, NC and they completely packed the place!

Amon Amarth brought their Great Heathen Tour to a sold-out crowd at Charlotte’s Fillmore on Sunday, November 20th.
Cattle Decapitation kicked things off, getting the crowd pumped up, and seeing the first of many mosh pits. Obituary were up next, continuing the onslaught. After a brief equipment change, Carcass drove the crowd into a frenzy with their brutal assault.
Amon Amarth took the stage with a fervor, launching into “Guardians of Asgaard” from 2008s Twilight of the Thunder God. Singer Johan Hegg was in fine voice, and the band sounded amazing! The sold-out crowd were more than ready for this Raid, as it’s been over three years since the band’s last Charlotte show. During the opening guitar riff to “Deceiver of the Gods,” the audience “sang” the guitar lines, which drew big smiles from guitarists Olavi Mikkonen and Johan Soderberg. During “Put Your Back Into the Oar” a good portion of the audience on the floor sat and “rowed”! Throughout the evening, the band thumped fist over heart in appreciation of the crowd response. You could definitely sense they had missed playing live and connecting with an audience during the two and a half year lockdown from Covid-19.
Overall, an amazing night of metal!
