Artist Spotlight is a segment that we started to introduce our listeners to some deserving up and coming artists/ bands. They have made an impact on us for all of the right reasons. We think they kick ass and we hope you do too! Today, we’d like to shine the spotlight on Reign of Z!
Singer Zosia West is no stranger to the dark side of life with lyrical content ranging from body dysmorphia,to bullying and sexual abuse; there is no shortage of expression to release in her meter and verse. Living by the motif of comforting the disturbed and disturbing the comfortable, Reign of Z has carved it’s path since its inception in 2017. Since its beginning, Reign of Z has added some heavy hits to its resume from playing the Shira Girl stage on 2018’s Vans Warped Tour, co-headlining the Whisky A Go-Go in LA and even raising 125% of their Indiegogo goal surpassing its initial $5,000, allowing them to record their debut EP, Mirrors and Memoirs with Justin Spaulding and Steve Sopchak (Ice Nine Kills) and regular radio play on 105.9 The X in Pittsburgh.
We sat down with the band for a short, but fun Q&A session!
Every superhero or villain has an origin and a band is no different minus the radioactive spiders and secret government experiments. What is the origin of Reign of Z?
I started (Z) into music when I was about i joke in utero. My mom use to play Mozart when she was pregnant with me. Also she said I drummed in her belly at midnight….the rest you can say is history.
Band names can have a meaning or it can be a name pulled out of a hat. What’s the story behind Reign of Z?
Berg the bass player and CEO of ROZ named the band! When Z had gone out to CA to have a meeting with the ex bass player of news years day. He said I should name the band after her. She didn’t like that it didn’t feel like a collaborative effort. So everyone who follows Z knows she has a bulldog name Reign who you actually see in some interviews talking!! A lot of people fell in love with her. So Berg being a smart ass said well everyone loves your dog so why don’t we call the band Reign of Z!! And it stuck!!
What are you currently working on?
We’re currently on tour with Modern Mimes and will be hitting the studio next year.
Who was your first celebrity crush?
(Z) my first celebrity crush was Jim Carrey. I love funny guys!
If music was over today and you had to go into professional wrestling, what would your wrestling name be?
(Berg) THE MAYOR!!!!!
