ARTIST SPOTLIGHT ~ SHEDONIST

Artist Spotlight is a segment that we started to introduce our listeners to some deserving up and coming artists/ bands. They have made an impact on us for all of the right reasons. We think they kick ass and we hope you do too! Today, we’d like to shine the spotlight on Shedonist!

Shedonist is a four-piece rock band fronted by Persian-American singer/songwriter Jasmin Toubi. The band crafts hard hitting rock with earworm hooks and powerhouse vocals. We recently sat down with front person Jasmin Toubi for a fun Q&A session.

Super heroes and villians all have an origin and bands are no differerent………..hopefully minus the radioactive spiders and secret government experiments. What’s the origin of Shedonist?

Jasmin Toubi/Shedonist: I guess you could say that I am the brainchild of Shedonist. As the main songwriter of Shedonist, the band’s expressions are an extension of my mind as my perspective is shown through my lyrics. Shedonist’s current lineup was formed in the summer of 2019 when bassist Walker DuBois and I met drummer Ben Foerg of The Absurd and Conor Spellane of Karma Vulture. Their musical chops plus mine and Walker’s creative minds came together on their first album Young, Dumb & Stupid.

Band names: sometimes there’s a story behind them and sometimes it was just something randomly chosen. What about the name Shedonist?

The name Shedonist is a play on the greek philosophical term “hedonist” which is a person who seeks pleasure over pain.

What’s going on right now in the land of Shedonist? Are you working on anything?

Shedonist is currently recording their next EP and a music video! There may be a surprise coming in the fall as well.

What was your first tattoo? Does it have any meaning behind it?

My first tattoo was actually done in the same room Shedonist recorded their first album in, affectionately named Sweat Lodge Studios. It was done by bassist Walker and it’s a messy happy face to signify that nothing is perfect but you should smile anyway.

Are you a good cook? If so, what’s your “go to” dish?

I loves to cook; I’m always baking for everyone and coming up with new ways to use common food scraps and turn them into something amazing. My most recent hit has been pickles made with watermelon rind.
