Artist Spotlight is a segment that we started to introduce our listeners to some deserving up and coming artists/ bands. They have made an impact on us for all of the right reasons. We think they kick ass and we hope you do too! Today, we’d like to shine the spotlight on singer/songwriter Shiah Luna!

Shiah Luna is an LA-based singer/songwriter that just launched her EP Patience & Mystery. Shiah had a successful live performance release show at The Peppermint Club for Live Nation Presents: Breaking Sound in Los Angeles. Her recent performance with The Goodness Tour in Columbus, Ohio was filled with soul and the power of love bringing awareness to people facing adversity. Shiah’s first official music video “Solo” will be released on September 16th followed by a live show at The Hotel Cafe on September 23rd!

The opening track “Solo” is a soulful rock ballad that introduces Luna’s independent spirit carried through the EP. A masterful blend of vulnerability and unapologetic confidence, Shiah balances pouring her heart out to a lover with her brutally honest reflection on why it all went wrong. Shiah isn’t afraid to fly solo, as the chorus goes, and her debut music video for this track releases Friday, September 16th with a live show at The Hotel Cafe on Saturday, September 23rd.

Shiah Also recently performed at the C2TV AWARDS at the classic Warner Grand Theatre!

Her musical influences Stevie Nicks, Prince, Tina Turner, and Queen are distinct on the EP, with upbeat, funk-influenced tracks like “Can’t Dance” reminiscent of Prince, with the falsetto to match. Electrifying guitar solos on “Burned on My Brain” infuse the EP with a raw edginess, while sentimental ballads such as “Hurricane” round out the tracklist to encapsulate the range of emotions following the journey of self-discovery and mending a heart. “Patience & Mystery” has been met with acclaim from live audiences, listeners inspired by Shiah’s genre-blending eclectic sound.

We sat down for a short, but fun Q & A session with Shiah!

Every superhero or villain has an origin and an artist is no different minus the radioactive spiders and secret government experiments. What’s the origin of Shiah Luna?

I have always loved the expression music. Singing was a way to say the things I was afraid to say as a child. I felt the calling to storytelling at a young age. My 1st recording was at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. I signed up to record “The Greatest Love of All” by Whitney Houston. I instantly felt at home in the vocal booth. Even as a teenager, I would set up a microphone in my shower for recordings to have more reverb. Being a recording artist has always been the path for me and an artform that I love.

An artist’s name can be something random that they chose out of a hat or sometimes they can have meaning. What about yours?

Shiah is my spiritual name. It means “God is Salvation”. Luna is my family name. After traveling to Uganda, Africa I felt the strong pull and sense of peace to go by SHIAH.

What are you currently working on?

I am currently working on a remix EP for my song “Can’t Dance” – It will include a dance/ house version, funk version and an acoustic version. I will be performing it live at my next show on March 24th at Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in Los Angeles.

Who was your first celebrity crush?

My 1st celebrity crush was NATALIE PORTMAN. I went to see Star Wars with my Dad and Brother for Father’s Day and all I could think was “WHO IS THAT?? I LIKE HER!”

If music was over today and you had to go into professional wrestling, what would your wrestling name be?

My wrestling name would be “Gemini Moon” – not only because my moon is in gemini, but as a wrestler I could trick my opponents with opposite moves and interesting character expressions.
