Artist Spotlight is a segment that we started to introduce our listeners to some deserving up and coming artists/bands. They have made an impact on us for all of the right reasons. We think they kick ass and we hope you do too! Today we’d like to shine the spotlight on Athens, Greece rockers Vonavibe.

Vonavibe are a heavy modern rock band from Athens, Greece. Bleed to Life is an album that redefines the sound barrier at least in terms of raw power. Currently, Vonavibe have sonically restructured this idea, and Bleed to Life does not simply give us a wall, it builds us a grand fortress. Besides the addictive hooks, intricate dynamics, clever drum pattering, and diverse vocals, the guitar interplay on Bleed to Life, is exceptional. Part of this is a result of the technical production, writing, and studio performances, but more viscerally, it feels to the listener like becoming a tidal wave, a volcano, a hurricane, pick your simile.

We sat down with Vonavibe for a short, but fun and interesting Q&A!

Every superhero or villain has an origin and a band is no different minus the radioactive spiders and secret government experiments. What is the origin of Vonavibe

Vonavibe came to life in 2016 and through some lineup changes we have resulted in this calmly powerful trio. Each one of us has a completely different story on how we got into music. For me personally (Dyon – Bass & Vocals) the key moment was when my mother took me to my first ever concert. The moment I saw Keith Richards hitting those first notes of “Satisfaction” I knew what I wanted to do with my life.

Band names can have a meaning or it can be a name pulled out of a hat. What’s the story behind Vonavibe? How did you come up with your band name?

Vonavibe was originally called Vice Versa. After we landed our first major label deal we realised we needed a name that would be unique. We already had the logo with the double VΛ so we started experimenting with vowels. Hence we discovered the word “Vona” which means hope in Icelandish. Vonavibe means a sense of hope.

What are you currently working on?

We are in the process of planning out a few gigs come September and then we will embark on a European tour. New music is always been made!

That’s easy, Pamela Anderson. I am pretty sure that any 80s kid who grew up watching Baywatch would tell you the same!

That’s a tough one… Oh well, Grave Digger it is then!

Thundercats!

We love cereal, especially at night. For some odd reason, it seems to taste better then. Do you have a favorite cereal?

Man this takes me back waaaaaay back! I don’t remember the name but there used to be a brand where the cereal was rectangular and honey flavoured! Discontinued I am afraid.

What was the first CD/album that you bought and what was your most recent CD/album purchase?

I remember it as if it was yesterday. Load by Metallica. I was 11 years old and I walked into a Virgin Megastore and was mesmerized by the volume of the place and all those records. The last one I purchased was Gojira’s, Fortitude. Great album!

If you have any tattoos, what was your very first one and does it have any meaning behind it?

None unfortunately but I do have an impressive amount of scars from all the bones I have crushed while involved in a pretty good amount of accidents.

Wolverine! Gotta love the dark nature of the character!

What’s your most useless talent?

You’d be surprised how quickly I can fall asleep…

I was actually a professional cook for almost 12 years. I would have to say that my favourite dish to make would be 12 hour cooked beef ribs accompanied by hand made pappardelle
