We sat down with Desiree Hancock of Wicked Envy and did a fun Q&A session with them!
All villains and heroes have an origin and a band is no different. Well, (hopefully) minus the radioactive spiders and government experiments. What’s the origin of Wicked Envy?
Wicked Envy has had a lot of ups and downs especially with line up changes since we formed in early 2014, we’ve gone through about 5 different band line ups, no joke. We ended up having a 2 year break as it just wasn’t working. I thought that was the end but after our hiatus I decided I couldn’t give up on this. I just had to start again with a new line up. I found our 2 new guitarists on Facebook of all places and things seem to be going great!
New Band! New Sound! New Attitude!
Band names: some have meaning and a story behind them while others were just pulled from a hat. What about Wicked Envy?
I actually came up with our band name Wicked Envy before I formed the band. I’ve always been interested in all things supernatural, especially witchcraft. I wanted the band name to reflect that. First I came up with Wicca Envy, which seemed cool, inspired by the witches coven, soon after I started brainstorming ideas and thought Wicked Envy had a nice ring to it. So I decided to hold onto that name, cause it’s quite unique and here we are.
Some artists know the specific moment that they were bitten by the music bug such as seeing The Beatles on Sullivan or listening to a specific album. What about all of you?
Oh wow! I mean I’ve always loved music from a young age. I think the moment I really wanted to pursue it as a career would have to be when I saw The Butterfly Effect Live at The Roundhouse for one of their first shows. Amazing performance, perfect sound and being apart of the crowd moshing really opened my eyes to Rock Music.
We all know of your talents inside of the band, but what are your useless talents outside of the band?
Haha! Well I am a massive movie buff, I can talk movies for hours, recite all the lines from my favourite films, TV shows and of course movie trivia.
What were the first and last albums that you bought?
The first physical album I bought was probably Greenday American Idiot. The most recent album I’ve purchased would have to be This is How the world Ends by Badflower. Both absolutely Amazing Albums that I play on repeat.
