Every superhero or villain has an origin and a band is no different minus the radioactive spiders and secret government experiments. What is the origin of Wicked Love?
Wicked Love came to be at the beginning of 2015. I was playing in a local 80’s cover band called Glamnation and we needed a new singer. I did what every desperate guitar player does and went on Craigslist looking for singers. I came across Brendan’s(lead singer for Wicked Love) post and immediately asked him to come over and jam as it is very rare to find a singer not over 40 in Charleston, SC that loves 80’s music. It turns out that Brendan lived several doors down from me in the same apartment complex! That sounds like fate, am I right!? He walked into my place full of confidence and started singing “Don’t Treat Me Bad” by Firehouse. Brendan wasn’t halfway through the song and the only thought I had was “Screw the cover band. Let’s leave our own legacy!”
Band names can have a meaning or it can be a name pulled out of a hat. What’s the story behind Wicked Love?
I was really into George Lynch and his band Lynch Mob back then. I really loved the title of their hit song “Wicked Sensation.” If I recall correctly, I looked at Brendan and said “I love the word wicked,” and that’s when it hit me. I do this thing when I’m coming up with band names that I’ll say them as if I’m announcing the band at a sold out arena show to see how it feels. Wicked Love just felt right. Go ahead, try it for yourself.
