British Lion have just released their 2nd album The Burning on January 17, 2020. Coinciding with that release, they also booked their very first U.S. Tour that began on January 18th and concluded on February 20th.

I felt so very, very fortunate to get to catch one of those dates. On February 18, 2020 they hit up Cone Denim Entertainment Center in Greensboro, NC not far at all from my home. Now whether you’ve heard the name “British Lion” before, I’m telling you now to pay attention. They’re best known for being a side project for Iron Maiden founder/bassist Steve Harris. He not only joins this band on bass and as a writer, but he has also produced both albums thus far.

Along side him is a very dynamic and strong vocalist, Richard Taylor. This guy is amazing to watch live. You’re not going to hear Iron Maiden here, but you will hear an excellent and classic hard rock band all on their own. They have already toured extensively since their first release in 2012. Hitting up the U.S. for the first time, they toured primarily on the east coast and were visiting much smaller venues than Steve Harris is accustomed to playing. Can you imagine? We got to be one of merely a few hundred people packed into a club and squeezed up to the stage to see an iconic hard rocker? Incredible!

Just stepping into Cone Denim that night, I was met with a huge line of fans already waiting patiently to buy the new album and t-shirts for the first time in person. Everyone (yes, including myself) was already decked out in their Maiden gear before entering the venue and then trickling up to the stage to wait for the show.

British Lion came out at 9:00 sharp starting out the show with “This Is My God,” the first track off of their first album. Then moving on into some tracks off their latest album like “City of Fallen Angels” and “The Burning.” They played a long sixteen song set for the show where they engaged constantly with this small intimate crowd. They actually didn’t even leave the stage for an encore and instead continued on with some tracks off their first release, to which quite a bit of the crowd was singing along.

While this current U.S. tour is sadly over, hopefully the success of this run will mean more in the future. Fingers crossed! British Lion are already scheduled for a few European dates this summer 2020, which you can find online at: https://britishlionuk.com/tour/
