Orange Animal, the widely admired rock band out of Cleveland, OH., with their unique, yet instantly recognizable sound, has a new, emotion-evoking single, “Sweet Heartache” out now. Orange Animal is John Ramsey (guitar/vocals), Bill Derivan (bass guitar), Chris Shaheen (guitar) and Adam Thurman (drums/percussion). John says, ‘”Sweet Heartache” is a slinky, mantra-like alt rock song about the quiet tension between holding on to heartache and letting love run free.” He continues, “It started with a memory/feeling of heartache and loss but slowly led to the reminder that regardless of the loss, there are certain things about you that can’t be taken or broken.” While, “Sweet Heartache” started with John hearing a specific sound in his head, that’s not how things typically come about when he’s writing. “This song was unique in that I wrote the bass line first followed by the guitar solo. The rest flowed from there”, he says. John’s current musical influences certainly vary from one extreme to the next. “I can’t seem to get enough Glen Hansard right now and Feist. But “Sweet Heartache” harkens back to my love of rock/metal (especially in the guitar solo).” Clearly John has a huge affinity for playing and writing music, but he’s also a huge classical music fan, which you wouldn’t expect from all of the music he has written in the past. He also writes and plays mainly by ear and can juggle. You can find Orange Animal continuing to write and record while playing shows at a venue near you. |
