Collective Soul’s Summer Tour with Switchfoot rolled into the beautiful Koka Booth Amphitheater in Cary, North Carolina on September 7. Mother Nature hasn”t been much of a music lover this summer as many outdoor shows have been delayed or postponed due to bad weather. There was a downpour early in the evening, but things cleared off and it turned into a beautiful night for live music.  After a short, acoustic set from Jade Jackson, Switchfoot rocked the venue and really got the crowd pumped up! Collective Soul hit the stage to the sound of “Cut The Chord.” The crowd immediately rose to their feet and began singing along. Collective Soul frontman Ed Roland is visually entrancing and knows how to command a stage. His suit was a pink, paisley design that looked as if he had lifted it from Prince’s wardrobe. He was channeling his best James Brown, minus the splits,  when it came to moving around with his microphone stand. All of those elements combined, plus his superb vocal delivery, made Roland both visually and sonically entertianing. Props must go to the band as well who delivered impeccable musicianship as they sounded just as good, if not better than, the studio recording. Their setlist sent all the way back to their debut album Hints Allegations and Things Left Unsaid all the way up to their new album Vibrating with “All Our Pieces” and “Cut The Chord.” It was gret to time warp with all of these great songs bringing back such great memories! What a great show from beginning to end! The only bad thing is that we wished it could have been longer!
