Cracker is currently on tour and are not only playing huge sets spanning their extensive 30+ year career, David Lowery and Johnny Hickman are adding some short acoustic sets in the mix including music from their solo projects. This turns every night into over 2 solid hours of non-stop music. We were stoked to catch the band this past Friday night when the guys hit up Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro, North Carolina.
Cat’s Cradle is an intimate venue and the band absolutely packed it with excited fans. When it was time for Cracker to hit the stage, David Lowery would come out first with just his acoustic guitar and tell us some stories before starting in on “Disneyland Jail, 1977.” This hilarious song would turn the crowd into a sea of laughter with absolutely every verse.
The full band came out next and went straight into 1998’s “Been Around The World.” Cracker would continue playing not just the hits, but some deep cuts, and a few covers. The crowd ranged from young to old and what I noticed most is absolutely all of them were really having the time of their lives. Everyone could be found singing along, dancing along, and just fully enjoying every moment.
When the lights went down signaling the end of their set, I heard the man next to me very clearly state “Nope, they ain’t done yet. They’ve got at least a few more left in them!”. Right he was, of course! Johnny Hickman would come out alone this time with just his acoustic guitar and playing “Poor Life Choices,” which everyone in attendance very happily sang right back at him. The rest of the band came back out for a couple more tracks, ending the show on their huge hit “Euro-Trash Girl.”
