“Could be like reading the opening chapter of a future best-seller’.”- Planet Rock

“Dead Writers are luminary in their own literary right.” – A&R Factory

“Astonishing” – Nick Cave

After being voted #1 Track of the Week by Classic Rock Magazine for their previous single and supporting Pale Waves in London, Dead Writers return with “Meet The Shadow,” the latest single and video from their debut EP.

Inspired by Carl Jung‘s ‘shadow self’ theory, the dark rock/post-punk track explores the duality of the conscious and unconscious mind, tackling mental struggles like depression, self-doubt, and intrusive thoughts. It offers a raw, poetic confession while encouraging self-acceptance: “Face disgrace / Embrace that you’re made up of imperfection / The Dark Nights of your Soul transpire.” The captivating black-and-white video, infused with elements of Surrealism and German Expressionism, perfectly complements the band’s neo-goth/glam aesthetic, amplifying their immersive visual storytelling.

Featuring a driving bassline, blistering guitars, and a soaring chorus, “Meet The Shadow” evokes the atmospheres of Joy Division, The Cure, and the wildest side of early Queen. Its psychological depth is enriched by whispered literary excerpts: “We wanted to infuse the song with meaning through the power of the hidden word.” With subtle references to Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde and The Phantom of the Opera, the track takes the listener on a journey of self-awareness through inner conflict.
