Dirty Honey rolled into Raleigh, NC on 4/5 as part of a co-headlining tour with Mammoth WVH. The only problem with this show was that just hours away from the starting time of the show, fans found out that there would be no Mammoth WVH. It seems that someone in his team tested positive for Covid and they were going into lockdown and missing the show. Full refunds were being given or you could stay and watch Dirty Honey perform. I was curious to see how many would be there given the circumstances. It would have been Mammoth WVH’s first time playing in Raleigh, NC, so how many were going to stick around and “get dirty” with our boys from Dirty Honey?
The band hit the stage at roughly 8:15 to a rowdy crowd ready to get dirty and rock and roll! The band were on top of their game, as always, but there was something a little extra about this performance. You know what I mean. You’re in the crowd and you can just feel it. The guys are beyond firing on all cylinders. This set was blistering hot! Lead vocalist Marc LaBelle is still one of the BEST vocalists out there today. He had the audience so fired up and you could even see the smile on his face because he was enjoying it so much. Guitarist John Notto was laying down some of the most blistering solos that we’ve ever heard him lay down. The rhythm section of drummer Corey Coverstone and bassist Justin Smolian were tighter than ever laying down that oh so important foundation that all of these songs are built upon. The usuals were all there including “California Dreamin,” “The Wire” and “Rollin’ 7s” as well as covers of Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy” and ACDC’s “Shoot To Thrill.” The guys even came back out for a special one song encore of a smokin’ cover of Aerosmith’s “Last Child.” I’m not sure if the guys put a little extra sauce on it tonight to help ease the disappointment of a last minute announcement of no Mammoth WVH, but this was one of the best shows we have seen these guys deliver and we have seen quite a few! Either way, these guys set the bar pretty damn high, so be careful if 3they’re opening your show because you’ll have a lot to top!
