On May 14th, Drowning PoolSaliva and Alien Ant Farm put on a show at The Basement East in Nashville, TN, The lineup felt like the perfect homage to the PS2 era with many of the bands having songs on legendary game soundtracks. Alien Ant Farm‘s vocalist even pointed this out with their first song saying, “How many of you played the Tony Hawk games, this song is on there.” AAF honestly surprised me, I knew they had a few hits but seeing them live was special. Saliva blew the doors down as they took to the stage. I did not know that Josey Scott had left the band in 2011 and was very impressed with Bobby Amaru and his ability to breathe new life into my old favorites. Drowning Pool came out like seeing an old friend. The intensity of their set is unmatched and their set was the perfect way to end the evening, I even got to shoot my favorite song “Step Up.” Above Snakes opened the show and I was very glad to catch them as they were fit insanely well with this lineup. For a younger opening act, they definitely set the tone of the night and set the bar as well for the veterans to aim for.
