Shinedown released their ATTENTION ATTENTION film on September 3, 2021 via Gravitas Ventures. It’s currently available on digital and cable VOD in the U.S. and Canada. The film was directed by Bill Yukich and features band members Brent Smith [vocals], Zach Myers [guitar], Eric Bass [bass, production], and Barry Kerch [drums] along with actresses Francesca Eastwood and Melora Walters. The film is based on Shinedown‘s 2018 album ATTENTION ATTENTION

I own every Shinedown album and honestly feel this is one of their best. Their sound has changed and evolved over the years, but the thing that absolutely hasn’t changed is their ability to record a great rock album every time.

ATTENTION ATTENTION begins with Devil, which was also their first single and music video released from the album prior to it’s debut. This really started the story. I love this track and it has a great visual storyline in the video.

I remember during especially the latter parts of the ATTENTION ATTENTION tour this is the song that was played at the start of the show. It’s extremely powerful and I recall the crowd would absolutely erupt every time screaming out the lyrics “It’s about to get heavy.” At the time, I took it as a precursor to the huge rock show that was coming. Watching the film however, you also realize it’s the feelings put into this album. This is definitely the deepest and most intense album for Shinedown thus far.

As Devil fades out, vocalist Brent Smith begins narrating the feelings and Black Soul begins to play. If you’ve been watching the videos, you’ve gotten to see part of the stories in this film in Human RadioMonsters, and Get Up. But now there will be new characters for every other track on the album. Brent Smith continues to narrate between each track/video through out the film. You can feel the emotion in his voice as he speaks, then each track is put to life in a video. It actually makes each story very relatable.

The production in every part of the film is just absolutely amazing. A stand out moment for me was Pyro, where the band played fully engulfed in flames. They definitely didn’t cut any corners to put out an outstanding finished product for their fans and it really shows through out. The film is played in the same running order as the album and finishes off with BrilliantBrilliant is truly the celebration of all they have endured and all of the characters from previous videos join each other walking together as the band plays and credits roll. Excellent film that was well thought out in every way.
