Richard Patrick and Filter are on the Rob Zombie & Alice Cooper Freaks on Parade Tour 2023 as direct support along with Ministry. The tour stopped in Raleigh, North Carolina at the Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek on August 29 and it was pretty close to a sell-out. These two bands have the sometimes-difficult task of being on early, especially Filter who go on first, as fans are still trickling in. They also, in most cases, have to perform in the direct sunlight because of how these amphitheaters were built without much thought going into that directional aspect. Filter hit the stage first and somewhat early, 6:10 if I do recall, over three hours before Rob Zombie is supposed to start his set. After 30 years of fronting Filter, Patrick is a pro in situations like this. The band only got a 30-minute set so they tried to pack as much punch inti as they could. They played some of the hits such as “Take A Picture” and “Hey Man Nice Shot.” They also played three songs from their latest album The Algorithm. I did think it was kind of an interesting choice to do that. You play six songs in your short set with three being brand new ones. I guess it’s great advertising, pushing your brand-new album. That’s just my opinion and before the negative comments start flowing in, I like the new album and I loved hearing the new songs live. As far as performing in the direct sunlight, Patrick came out with sunglasses on which he wore for almost the entire set. A complete setlist follows the photo gallery.
