After covering Godsmack last summer in Raleigh, NC at the Coastal Credit Union Amphitheater and witnessing their massive pyro display, we knew this show would prove to be a very different kind of beast. The DPAC in Durham, NC is a much smaller indoor venue and there would be no pyro at all. The show was part electric, part acoustic but all kick-ass! After being a fan of the band for almost their entire career, it was fun to see them in such a smaller setting. I don’t want to give away too much, even though you can find almost all of the show on YouTube already. The crowd may have started the show sitting down, but it didn’t take them long before everyone was on their feet. The setlist spanned different eras of their long career and even included five covers from the likes of Pink Floyd, Metallica and The Beatles. The stage was set up beautifully and the display screen behind the band guys showed some amazing imagery throughout the entire show. Tonight was less about the style, but more about the substance. They let the music do the talking on this show and with a career spanning almost 30 years, they had a lot to talk about. This show is a must for Godsmack fans, duh, but I would also encourage lovers of great live rock to also check it out if you get the chance. A full setlist follows the photo gallery.
