Hank Williams Jr has been celebrating the 45th Anniversary of his signature tune “Family Tradition” this year with a huge headline tour. The lineup has changed with different openers in various cities. We were absolutely stoked to have the chance to catch this tour when it rolled into PNC Music Pavilion in Charlotte, NC on August 9th.
It was a hot summer day and fans were packing the venue when we got there. Sadie Bass got the show started that night with a short acoustic set and really had no issues getting the crowd up and moving. Next up, was Old Crow Medicine Show. These guys give every ounce of themselves with every performance and so easily had audience members up and dancing right along with them during their set.
Hank Williams Jr hit the stage right at 9:00 and the venue was absolutely packed. Everyone at their seats, though definitely not sitting. I saw everyone up and eagerly awaiting him to finally come out. Hank Jr came out with his signature gold “ICON” hat on and gave a wave and a bow to the enthusiastic crowd before grabbing his guitar and diving straight into the first track.
Hank Williams Jr played a huge set that night filled with all of his hits, some covers. It’s hard fitting 45 years+ worth of music into 1 set and he somehow managed. It was an absolute perfect night of music that we definitely won’t be forgetting.
