Lainey Wilson unveiled her 5th studio album, Whirlwind, on August 23, 2024 via BBR Music Group. You can currently find her out on the road on her own headline tour. The “Country’s Cool Again” Tour began on May 31, 2024 in Nashville, TN and is set to wrap up on November 15, 2024 in Monroe, LA.
We were excited to catch Lainey Wilson live this past weekend when the tour rolled into Red Hat Amphitheatre in Raleigh, NC. This night was completely sold-out and when we arrived thousands of fans were already piling. It was a little bit of a chilly night, so everyone was bringing coats or blankets into the venue with them. We noticed not a single person forgot their hats and boots, everyone was ready for this show!
Zach Top got the show started that night. Zach released his 2nd album, Cold Beer and Country Music, earlier this year. He had no problem entertaining the crowd as they were still filling in the venue. Ian Munsick hit the stage shortly afterwards. Ian Munsick released the deluxe version of his sophomore album, White Buffalo, earlier this year. He had absolutely everyone on their feet and dancing during his set.
It had gotten dark out and the lights went down on stage right before time for Lainey Wilson to finally come out. Over the speakers, we hear “I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool” by Barbara Mandrell playing, which had everyone singing right along. As the screen at the back of the stage lights up, we see a silhouette of Lainey Wilson standing atop her orange pickup truck. Everyone was on their feet as she started into her first song. The screen at the back of the stage moved through the countryside making it look like we’re all flying down the road on that pickup truck right along with her.
The biggest things I noticed, everyone was dancing, waving, singing along. There were a lot of kids in the audience that night. A lot! They were all so excited. No matter the age, everyone enjoyed this show. It was a little chilly, but people bundled up and just had a great time. And most of all, Lainey Wilson put on an incredible live show for them. She flew through so many tracks and even invited opener, Zach Top, to rejoin her on stage. She invited fans to sing. It was a really great show.
