Lynyrd Skynyrd has been out on tour celebrating 50 years. You can currently catch the band live on “The Sharp Dressed Simple Man” Tour, a co-headline tour with ZZ Top. It’s an awesome event when you get the chance to see 2 legendary acts such as this and fans were not only hanging out and celebrating in the parking lot ahead of the show last week when we caught them, they excitedly filled the arena as soon as the doors opened. Black Stone Cherry would open the show and get the crowd warmed up, then would ZZ Top would hit the stage everyone in the arena was on their feet.
When Lynyrd Skynyrd hit the stage, all fans in attendance were back on their feet and cheering. It’s actually exciting to see such a diverse crowd. Lots of fans who have followed Lynyrd Skynyrd for years, as well as tons of younger fans filled the crowd. I heard a lot of stories from fans that night and each one was excited for the show. And honestly, seeing every current member of Lynyrd Skynyrd on stage smiling and interacting with the crowd, you can tell they are just as excited every night getting to play for these crowds. There was a huge screen at the back of the stage constantly showing old photos of videos honoring the legacy of this incredible band that has continued to bring this music out on the road for everyone to enjoy.
The band played a full 90-minute show which included loads of favorite tracks. A guest appearance by Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) during “Call Me The Breeze” plus a video & audio recording of none of than Ronnie Van Zant during “Free Bird.” The excitement and just appreciation for the entire performance was seen on everyone’s faces as they left following the end of the show.
