“With her lush voice and alt-pop sound that belongs in a smoke-filled back room, it’s easy to get lost in the fantasy of a world long gone. But somehow, she manages to stay grounded, finding her place not in the Soundcloud pop machine or the radio queue, but in an undiscovered niche, seemingly reserved only for her.” – Earmilk

Billboard charttopping singer/songwriter Michelle Kash has released her sultry new single “Gravity” just in time for Valentine’s Day. Centered around giving into temptation, the track takes the listener on a dark pop drive through downtown and was inspired by electric New York City nights. PRESS HERE to listen.

Produced by Grammy-nominated Aaron Kamin of ThBie Calling, “Gravity” captures the bittersweet feeling of surrendering to love’s magnetic pull – for better or for worse. Blending ethereal melodies, hypnotic synth waves, and the artist’s hauntingly raw and airy vocals, the track explores themes of loss, separation, longing and toxic relationships.

I wrote the poem that ‘Gravity’ is based on in NY,” said Michelle Kash. “The original title was ‘Lou Reed/Gravity/W11th.’ It seemed that everyone I would fall in love with loved Lou Reed, and that if someone loved Lou Reed it just naturally wouldn’t work out. One day, while plagued by the emotional ups and downs of my love life, I was getting off an elevator in the West Village and crossed paths with Lou. It felt so surreal and bizarre and kind of a neon sign of some sort. It was a moment where I felt everything collide and all of my experiences collapse into one another, and I wrote this as soon as I got home.”

Inspired by everyone from Joan Jett to Portishead, Michelle grew up surrounded by art and creativity during her globe-trotting childhood – playing guitar and piano and writing poetry of her own at a young age. Finding solace in spirituality, she began going on meditation retreats, and it was during a retreat in Utah when she discovered her singing voice while meditating. After releasing hypnotic fan favorites “Smoking Gun” and  “Hurt Me”, she dropped an acclaimed cover of Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus” which climbed to #4 on the Billboard Dance charts. Outside of music, Michelle has made a lifelong commitment to philanthropy and advocating for gender equality, female empowerment and is a fierce fighter for animal rights.
