Following the release of 2023’s celebrated debut studio EP Trials & Tribulations’, Bristol-based alt-rock trio Pollyanna Blue are excited to be releasing their newest single “Daydream”, which will be out on Wednesday the 24th of April 2024.

The best way to describe Pollyanna Blue is as a juxtaposition of old and new music, harnessing the contrast of 90s and 00s alt rock rock, pop and grunge with modern tones, creating an exciting wall of sound that will feel strangely familiar, yet can only be defined to them.

Lyrically the fearlessness of self-expression and narrating themes of mental health and navigating human complexity fits well with the origin of the band’s name, which was influenced by the self help book ‘Feel The Fear and Do it Anyway’. These lyrics are backed by a vocal performance from Zoe, who brings a beautifully soulful yet aggressive power.

Pollyanna Blue’s debut studio EP, released in June of 2023, was celebrated by the likes of RTELoudwireLoud WomenDistorted SoundSirius XM and BBC Radio1Future Alternative (Nels Hylton) and Introducing Rock Show with (Alyx Holcombe).

“Daydream” was recorded at Lower Lane Studios in Stoke-on-Trent with producer Sam Bloor who produces music for other great artists such as Graphic NatureGraywaveBlack Coast & Queen Cult

“Daydream” was written in a haze of insomnia after a sudden withdrawal of caffeine and nicotine. The line between daytime and nighttime was starting to blur, making it harder to stay awake through the day and by nighttime feeling wide awake. A fascination around the words daydream and nightmare and how over time being lost in a daydream, ended up being a nightmare inspired the whole feel of the lyrics. After waking up disoriented late one afternoon feeling fed up, Zoe grabbed a guitar, lay in bed and was drawn to the chord progression, melody and lyrics that became the beginnings of Daydream.

At this point the members of Pollyanna Blue have bonded over their common ground in music and put “Daydream” through a whirlwind of references from Yonaka, Vukovi, Paramore, Hole, Slowdive and Lush, to create a sound which is a homage to 90s and 00s grunge tones and glazes it with modern production to really let the bands new sound shine.
