Nothing can keep Griffin Shiminski, also known as Only Okay, from creating incredible hip-hop music that resonates with anyone who hears it. Last year, Only Okay put out an astounding 45 songs and has even more music to share now with his new album, 26 dropping today. The name of the album is significant as it’s Griffin’s 27th birthday, leaving his last year of life behind and looking forward to the future.
Griffin says, “I think I have come a long way from the 45 songs that I put out last year, and that I’ve gone even farther with the new stuff that I’m working on. I am excited to keep going and see what happens. I am also getting into making lyric videos, so I’m hoping to up my game in terms of content here soon with the new album dropping. Also, I have gotten to meet a lot of amazing people throughout my musical journey and that has made it all worth it.”
All of the songs on, 26, are memorable, but especially, “Words Collide”, which is the focus track of the album, “It is one of my favorites on the project” says Griffin. “The track features a mix of house/dance music and hip-hop, as well as vocals from Ras316 on the chorus.”
While all 12 of the songs on, 26 are very different, there is something that connects them all together says Griffin, “The fact that I am unapologetically being myself on every song on this project. Some themes include money, hard work, perseverance and the pursuit of happiness.”
Griffin is currently working on putting together lyric videos and other pieces of content to growth a rollout strategy of highlighting a song each week in the next 12 weeks once the album is out.
Although writing, recording and promoting his music take a lot of time, Griffin credits his family and friends as being the ones that keep me motivated and the reasons he works so hard, “I want a future where I am able to see them all some more, and they all deserve so much. I don’t know what else I’d really be doing with my time if it wasn’t making music.”
