Rick Springfield’s I Want My 80s Tour made a stop again this year in Raleigh, NC at the beautiful Red Hat Amphitheater in downtown Raleigh on June 4. Rick headlined again, duh, and put on quite a show (as always). If you’re not familiar with this, Rick has been doing something that has been his signature move over the last few tours. He takes a bouquet of roses (supplied to him by his crew as well as ladies in the audience) and smashes them against his guitar causing petals to fly everywhere. By the end of the show, the stage is covered in rose petals.
His show has a lot of ground to cover having to time travel back to 1981’s Working Class Dog album. With that many hits to cover, he has a medley that he does that contains close to ten of his hits. He’s very interactive with his audience and his sense of humor shines all throughout the show. If you’re a newer fan of Rick’s and you’re there waiting for “that song,” he makes you wait. Oh yeah, you have to wait all the way up until the end but it’s well worth it. Also, the interaction between Rick and his bandmates is so much fun that it makes you have fun as well. The guy is almost 76 years old and puts much younger guys in other bands to shame. Yeah, they really need to watch one of his shows and learn how to put on a full show. I hope I can move half as good as he does when I get that age. A full setlist follows the photo gallery.
