Rick Springfield really delivered a great show to the fans in attendance at the Red Hat Amphitheater in Raleigh, North Carolina on August 7. He’s currently headlining the Sirius XM 80s on 8 Summer Tour joined by Men at Work and John Waite. His set was so jampacked with hits from the 80s that he did a medley of a few of them. He really could have used more time to properly do them justice (although that medley was pretty fun). By watching Springfield run around that stage all night, bare chested at times and interacting with the crowd, it is hard to imagine that he’s in his 70s. He must have a strict diet and workout routine because I hope I can be half that good when I’m in my 70s! Speaking of the hits, they were all there! You name it, “Love Somebody,” “Affair of the Heart” and of course “Jessie’s Girl.” Springfield is also celebrating the 40th anniversary of his landmark album Working Class Dog which he has rerecorded (I have it and it’s really good). He also did something very cool that I’ve never seen done before. He ended several songs by taking roses and strumming them along his guitar strings thus sending the petals flying everywhere. That would explain why in some pictures that I’ve seen that the stage is covered by the end of the song! Catch this tour if you can because it’s a lot of fun. You can also catch Springfield on the road afterwards and he constantly is touring.
