Rising Jamaican singer/songwriter Keznamdi has been hard at work putting the finishing touches on a new studio album. Due out in the first half of this year (2025), the new effort (his second full-length album) promises to deliver more of the vibrant, compelling, globally-inspired material for which he has come to be known. More details will be announced shortly.
A new video/track, “Time,” is out today. Taken from the forthcoming as-of-yet untitled album, the panoramic video is filmed in Ghana and highlights Keznamdi’s deep cultural roots to Africa. His poignant lyrics remind us to value the truly important things in life…a message all can relate to in these dire times.
Of “Time,” Keznamdi commented, “Humanity is constantly faced with this tension between intense focus/urgency required to propel us forward on our mission and patience/turning down our volume to live in the moment to fully enjoy the things in life that are also foundation to our existence – like family, nature and recreation. I know this song is gonna touch some inner notes for a lot of people ‘coz it’s just straight up reality.”
Melding traditional reggae with dancehall, Afrobeats, world music, hip-hop and soul, Keznamdi’s sound has captivated audiences worldwide clocking in over 20 million streams to date. He has already held the #1 spot on both the iTunes Top Reggae Album Charts and Billboard Reggae Albums Chart and boasts a diverse list of top-notch collaborations including Zhu, A-Trak, Poo Bear and more. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, to Rastafari parents, singers with the iconic reggae outfit Chakula, Keznamdi grew up with both musical and activist influences. Facing discrimination and bullying in his youth, he learned early on to strengthen his resolve and live life on his own terms. An international work opportunity for his mother led the family’s move to Tanzania and then Ethiopia, which became a colorful and enlightening backdrop for young Keznamdi’s creative palette.
Keznamdi made his debut in 2013 with the independent “Bridging the Gap” EP. It scored #1 on the iTunes Top Reggae Albums Chart and the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart. He built a fanbase with consistent performances around Jamaica, then going on to make inroads towards a global impact. Following came the “Skyline Levels, Vol 1” EP in 2017, featuring the triumphant single “Victory” with Chronixx, which hit over 1.2 million YouTube subscribers. He quickly went on to headline a sold-out tour, packing venues across the United States. BLOODLINE is Keznamdi’s first full-length album. Recorded at his family’s Skyline Levels studio in Jamaica, mixed in Miami and mastered at Abbey Road, the project was released in 2019 to critical acclaim. Of the album, Reggaeville heralded, “…Keznamdi nails it…despite all his perfection, there is still an element of emotional fragility in his delivery that makes this artist so damn relatable.”
