The Kia Forum was packed with anticipation as the stage drapes dropped to reveal the words “Are You Ready to Rock?” The Scorpions hit the stage playing “Gas in The Tank”. Loud. Big. I loved it. They powered through their seventeen-song-set of iconic hits spanning the band’s fifty-seven-year career with the energy of adrenalized teens.
“Seventh Sun” was a highlight of the show with singer Klaus Meine’s fiery vocals, as piercing blue and green lights shined on the stage.
“Bad Boys Running Wild” kept the rock at high volume followed by the hit ballad, “Send Me an Angel” which had everyone’s phone lights illuminating the entire venue.
Popular hit “Wind of Change” was dedicated to the Ukrainian people as lyrics played over the screen with lanterns flying in the sky as the crowd sang along.
The crowd extended their collective metal horns while rocking out to “Rock Believer”, which is one of my favorite songs off the new album by the same name.
Drummer Mikkey Dee was a standout with his incredible seven-minute drum solo. Then the Scorpions ended their epic set with an encore of their mega hits “No One Like You” and “Rock You Like a Hurricane” which left the crowd cheering for more.
Everything about the Scorpions concert was larger than life: the band’s phenomenal musicianship, including Klaus’s soaring vocals accompanied by Rudolf Schenker on rhythm guitar, Matthias Jabs slaying lead guitar, Paweł Mąciwoda on earth shattering bass and the pounding drums of Mikkey Dee, all collided with the mind-bending backdrops, videos, and light show, to bring this show to a high throttle fever pitch, until the very end.
