Co-headlining the Machine Killer tour with Static-X, Sevendust opened their set at The Paramount in Huntington, NY on February 14, 2024 with the top track from their latest album, Truth Killer, released this past June. From there, they took us through a powerful set of both new and old songs, ending with my personal favorite, Face to Face.
In the mayhem of crowd surfing, pits, and a few thousand people screaming their favorite lyrics that is standard at every Sevendust show, there was a very sweet moment that shows how truly genuine these guys are. A father and daughter came to the show, and while I am atrocious when it comes to guesstimating ages, I’ll give it a shot and say she was about seven. Security was on the ball about it, and made sure that she had a secure spot right at the front so that she could see, and also be safe from the crushing pack of excited metalheads behind her. She clearly knew Sevendust’s music, and spent the whole set dancing and having a great time.
Somewhere in the middle of the set, Lajon Witherspoon noticed her and waved. She had that excited fangirl moment that we’ve all had when we’re sure our favorite band member has noticed us somehow. After a few more songs Witherspoon went backstage, then came back to bring her a t-shirt. At the end of the set, they made sure she got a drumstick as well. The entire exchange was so heartwarming to watch, and I’m very sure Sevendust gave her a day she will remember for a very long time.
As always, Sevendust put on an amazing show, and I am definitely looking forward to seeing them again when they come back to town.
