On April 18, 2025, Silverstein took the stage to a sold out show at Empire Live in Albany, NY, for their 25 Years of Noise tour. This crowd was already riled up after the opening bands, Greyhaven, Broadside, and Real Friends, so they were ready to explode by the time Silverstein opened with “Skin & Bones.” Pits and crowd surfers started at the first scream, and much like during Real Friends’ set, I found myself in the photo pit ducking crowd surfers pretty much immediately.
Silverstein played two songs from their new album Antibloom, “Skin & Bones” and “Confession,” which was released on February 21, 2025. Their new album does not disappoint, and the crowd was visibly taken with the new songs. They all seemed to have them committed to memory, singing along as if they had lived and loved these songs for years already. But the audience’s appreciation of the new was not outshone by their love for the old, as “Smile in Your Sleep” opened up one of the wildest pits of the night, and had the whole crowd chanting “you lie” at near-deafening levels.
For an encore, singer Shane Told came out with an acoustic guitar for what he called “an emo singalong,” and played “My Heroine.” If anyone in the crowd wasn’t singing before (and I doubt it), they definitely were now. But not enough, as it turns out. After the first round, Told said, “Pretty good. I think we can go louder.” And with that encouragement, everyone in the room gave it their all, and sang the chorus in unison. It was really beautiful.
After “My Heroine,” Silverstein finished out the show with “Smashed Into Pieces” and “Bleeds No More,” from their 2003 album When Broken is Easily Fixed. While I don’t think anyone wanted the evening to end, and they all would have gratefully accepted two or three more encores, it was clear that everyone left having one of the best musical experiences of their lives.
