Dubbed by American Songwriter Magazine as a “supergroup,” Los Angeles’ Sons of Silver are back in the studio, hard at work on a new album slated for release in 2026.
When asked about the writing and recording process, frontman Argyropoulos shares, “The lyrics are still in the works. But they’re shaping up to lean heavy on nostalgia. As a group, we’re always talking about our kids and how fast they’re growing. The sentiment is making its way into the lyrics in a strong way. That said, the political themes remain a close second.” Engineer and keyboardist Kabler adds, “We’re recording these new songs in a large space instead of our smaller studio, which is a totally new experience for us. The big room brings a big sound; it feels more like playing live, which gives us the freedom to really rock out and let go. We also took our time to work out the songs and play them live together before recording. Writing a song and performing it are very different things, so we wanted to capture that live energy and emotion.”
Sons of Silver features Peter Argyropoulos (Last December, Pete RG) on vocals and guitar, Adam Kury (Candlebox) on bass, Kevin Haaland (Skillet) on guitar, Marc Slutsky (Adam Ant, Peter Murphy) on drums, and engineer Brina Kabler on keyboards.
“For this album, we separated writing and demos, then we got the songs demoed, and overdubs sorted as a batch. We then went back to record it all like we booked a studio. This lets us approach each part as a single focus. The recording is quicker and easier with us all in a single mindset,” says Kury. Slutsky adds, “A big change this time around is the room we are recording in. It’s an extremely large “warehouse” type environment. I love playing in this room. It allows us to place mics far away for “Big” room sounds and natural reverb. It’s a lot of fun and very inspiring!”
Their acclaimed debut full-length album, Runaway Emotions (January 2025), was hailed by Classic Rock as “fully formed ‘big’ music, purpose-designed for large crowds and larger arenas,” while New Noise Magazine praised its “multiplexity of soaring vocals, alternative rock, and riffs. Every song pours emotion and energy.”
Runaway Emotions followed two EPs—2020’s Doomsday Noises (which landed three songs on the Billboard Active Rock chart) and 2022’s Ordinary Sex Appeal. They continued to build momentum with their live album 7 Cities 7 Songs (October 3, 2025), recorded during their Art of Letting Go Tour alongside Myles Kennedy and Tim Montana. Folk N Rock described the collection as “phenomenal… with a strong clarity that gives the performance its live action energy.”
After spending much time on the road this year, Haaland says, “In some ways, the chemistry in the studio is the same; in others, it’s evolved. We still write and record by jamming together in a room, which is foundational to who we are as a band. But after all those shows and live recordings, we’ve learned that we don’t need as many overdubs on keys and guitar. The five of us playing our parts is plenty.”
The band continues to push forward creatively, writing and recording new material that promises to elevate their distinctive sound even further.
