Gears & Guitars Fest just wrapped up their 10th annual event in Winston-Salem, NC. This year’s event ran from August 4th through 6th and is hosted by Winston-Salem Cycling. Each year this includes multiple cycling events in downtown Winston-Salem, NC and a huge stage to host some amazing music acts as well. This year’s live music was free for everyone to attend and as music lovers we were stoked to check them out.
On Saturday August 5th, the live music would take place in Bailey Park as it did in previous years. There were still cycling events running in the blocks surrounding Bailey Park so fans were actually able to view a little of both, which is a pretty nice bonus that made for a very fun event. Local vendors would set up food trucks and Incindiary Brewing Company, which helped sponsor the event, was also set up right inside of Bailey Park for fans to enjoy.
Dishwalla hit the stage around 7:30 pm and while local attendees remembered their visit at Gears & Guitars Fest in 2019. They still managed to blow everyone away with an incredible 1 hour long set that had everyone on their feet by the end.
Soul Asylum hit the stage as the sun had gone down and cycling events from the day were coming to a close. This made everyone not already at the park come in to see the rest of the show. It had been a hot day, but everyone stuck around for the night’s headliner. Bailey Park has a nice cascading lawn that makes it perfect for viewing, but even the sidewalks were full when Soul Asylum played. The band came out and dove straight into “Somebody To Shove” off of 1992’s Grave Dancers Union.
Soul Asylum played almost a 2-hour set and believe me, people were still hanging out and rocking out until the very end. Check out some photos from their set that night taken by I’m Music Magazine Photographer Daphne McKinney.
