L.A rockers Stitched Up Heart has become a sought after act, in the female fronted genre of hard rock. They have toured with top acts like Godsmack, Halestorm and In This Moment, and on their own as well. Formed in 2012, by lead Alecia “Mixi” Demner, Stitched Up Heart has continually worked on perfecting their sound, and improving their intense live shows. To The Wolves, their third album, brings some of their best yet.

The album starts with the title track. This proves an impressive opening, ominously spooky topped with a drum intro and powerful guitar riff. It’s a roller coaster of sound, with softer verses and powerful chorus. Mixi elegantly weaves her voice through these ups and downs. She starts softly “I’m not afraid to show you all my teeth / Being alone never bothered me”. At the chorus her rage can be felt through that same voice, as we are warned, “You’ll be sorry if you ever cross me / Tear you apart, rip out your heart / Maybe then you’ll know, you’re fu***ng with the wolf”. The song is excellently crafted to bring you into the anger filled warning.

Another one that stands out has been released ahead of the album. “Possess Me” has an opening just as strong as “To The Wolves”. The lyrics cry out to be possessed, the longing in Mixi’s voice seem ethereal at the beginning, and breaks out in a strong desire, as she yells “Come and get me”. The chorus continues “You cast a spell, you took me down / Now I have become your possession.”

“Part of Me” is a bit different in sound, but just as powerful. The electronic sound at the beginning, and the tempo in the chorus, both induce the manic emotion in the lyrics. The verses are spoken rather than sung, feeding into the feeling of paranoia. “All my life I’ve been running away / from the voice in my head, it’s got too much to say /…As hard as I try to kill this voice, it just won’t die / messing with my mind, telling me lies, all of the time”. It’s easy to imagine Mixi frantically singing the chorus while looking into a mirror. “I’m part of you, you’re part of me.”

This new offering from Stitched Up Heart, sees them at their best. They have taken all of the lessons learned over the years, and crafted an album that will help them continue to climb to the top. They are definitely becoming one of the hottest female fronted hard rock bands around, lest you be thrown To The Wolves.
